Yelping Yelp

Review of Washington Commons, posted by Jackie T. on June 13th, 2010:

2 out of 5 stars.

I enjoy the bar, outdoor and indoor space are both nice, been many times. What has prompted me to write this review is based on my last experience I had here. One of the female bartenders left a bad taste in my mouth.

She was INCREDIBLY rude to everyone I knew that got their drinks from her. Treated us unkindly, rushed us, and made some very nasty comments. I separately overheard a guy order the "cheapest beer"....and she replied "Are you seriouss??" in a tone of voice I hadn't heard since the 6th grade. ......Um, are YOU serious? This is Brooklyn. If you want people to only order $12 cocktails go work in Chelsea.
All in all, I say go... but be sure to place yourself at the other end of the bar from her.

Putting aside the catastrophically poor phrasing of the sentence "one of the female bartenders left a bad taste in my mouth," the incident that Jackie T. describes here is...confusing. Jackie devotes the bulk of her review not to her own experience at Washington Commons, which she actually seems to like and visit frequently, but to a questionable (but not necessarily poor) service exchange in which she's not even involved. Jackie T.'s privileging of this anecdote over the "many times" she's been to Washington Commons, coupled with her rushing past her own encounter with the help on The Night of The Rude Bartender, is as clear an indication as any that she's distrustful of her own experience. Which, of course, calls into question the whole idea of her reviewing anything.

She then goes on to rhetorically suggest to (I think) the bartender that she "go work in Chelsea," because the drinks there are more expensive which, (again, I can only guess here at the author's intentions) would thus somehow afford the bartender the ability to serve a cheap beer with attitude that's objectionable in Brooklyn.

Jackie T. gets zero out of five stars.
